First Earth Day Celebration:-

President Richard Nixon and First Lady Pat Nixon plant a tree on the White House South Lawn to recognize the first Earth Day.

Earth Day is an annual event, which is organized to show support for environmental protection around the world on April 22. It was founded by American senator Gerald Nelson in 1970 as environmental education. Now it is celebrated every year in more than 192 countries. Senator Nelson proposed the first nationwide environmental protest to connect the environment into a national agenda. "It was a gamble," they recollect "but it worked." Famous film and television actor Eddie Albert played an important role in the creation of Earth Day. Although Albert did the primary and most important work to build this annual event in the context of environmental activism, which he strongly supported during his entire tenure.
Earth Day In Canada:-
The first Earth Day was held in Canada on Thursday, 11 September 1980. It was organized by Paul D Tinari. He was a graduate student from the Queen's University in the field of Engineering Physics/Solar. On that time Flora MacDonald was MP in Kingston and the Islands and former Canadian Secretary of State for External Affairs. officially opened Earth Day Week on September 6, 1980, with a ceremonial tree planting and encouraged MPs and MPPs across the country to declare a cross-Canada annual Earth Day. The principal activities taking place on the first Earth Day included educational lectures given by experts in various environmental fields garbage and litter pick-up by students along city roads and highways as well as tree plantings to replace the trees killed by Dutch Elm Disease.
